BAND INTERVIEW: "Skooters"

The band with one of the coolest names are back and are back with a banger! Skooters has been talked about here on GKE before for previous singles they’ve released. Now they are back with a new version of the single “Legos” that now features one of the scene’s S tier vocalist Kellin Quinn. Released on March 23rd this re-release took a huge step forward with this new addition and brought a second breath to a song that needed more attention in the first place. We caught up with the guys in Skooters and asked them a few questions!

Hey guys! Thanks for taking some time to answer a few questions for us! For the people who haven’t heard you before, how would you describe your sound?

Sip(vocals/rhythm guitar): We’re skooters! Our sound is something like angular dance punk.

Ben (lead guitar): Pop Punk adjacent forsure. Like kinda pop punk, but not. Like drinking a Blink-182 flavored La Croix.

Andy (bass guitar): But in a good way. More of a feeling. Late nights with a tub of kimchi and a box of Kleenex.

The band is fairly new to the scene, how did you guys meet and decide to join together?

Sip: I met Andy freshman year in a dorm. He was showing everybody his rap beats. Ben we met at a house show the same year right?

Ben: Yeah we have all helped record parts for various bands we have been a part of, but never been a proper band. After Covid we got together and just started writing.

You started releasing music only a year ago, and some of your songs have really good numbers for being so new. Have you seen more engagement with every release? What is your secret to growing your band?

Andy: Throw things at a wall and hope something sticks. It helps to treat the band not like a band at all you know? Without Thomas on the snare the groves would go nowhere. Give the people what they want. Drama, emotion, relatability

Sip: Thanks! Things really started building momentum when we released ‘julz roolz’, the song before that one flopped. The biggest takeaway from that was it’s counterintuitive to release a song without some sort of plan to promote it. Crazy.

Andy: As far as the secret to success, I’ll usually make an offering to the algorithm gods before hitting the post button

Sip: Nothing crazy though. A couple of drachma here and there, maybe a soul

Ben: Maybe like a decade of indentured servitude. We try to make sure the returns outweigh the losses.

Your newest single “legos” features Kellin Quinn, how did you get him on a track and were you stoked to hear his parts on your song the first time you got it back?

Sip: Honestly I’m still processing it. He had shown some love to ‘julz roolz’ in the comment section once. So when this song came around I reached out to see what would happen.

Andy: Shooters shoot.

Sip: I was pretty geeked when he sent his verse. Hearing this voice you’ve known for years on your own song is a crazy feeling.

You’ve been consistently releasing music since 2022, what is up next for you guys moving into 2023?

Andy: We’ve got a more consistent release schedule this year. We took the winter to build up our material. Mostly just a lot of bangers and working on our style. Picture love island meets a Garth brooks concert. I don’t want to spoil anything else.

Ok, now for some fun questions! If you could open for any band for one night only, who would it be?

Ben: Kiss. Hotter Than Hell tour 1974. That’s where my dad was conceived. Imagine playing the song that ends up creating you.

Sip: Asian Kung-Fu Generation. I would die to see them live.

Andy: I‘d want a split bill of King Gizz and Coldplay. An absolute rager.

Would you rather only write and record music or only perform live?

Sip: Only record because it’s way less scary.

Ben: Definitely playing live. Not even close

Andy: That’s a toss up. Writing with the family is the highlight of the week for me. Such quality musicians in a room just hanging out can’t be topped. However, some of the most creative elements of our tracks came from playing live. Mostly by accident but never in doubt.

What band made you want to be musicians?

Ben: MCR without a doubt.

Sip: Paramore. Shout out to Brand New Eyes.

Andy: Billy Squier and Green Day

Thank you for taking the time to answer some of our questions! Is there anything you want to plug or say to your fans?

Andy: I would just say to the fans, get ready for a lot of music this summer.

Ben: Spread the word. Tell your friends, mom, dog, preacher, and step-sis.

Sip: Thanks for all the support we’ve got a lot of releases planned for you all. Thanks for having us!

If you’ve never heard of Skooters until now, I highly suggest checking out Legos feat Kellin and their other single “Julz roolz” a spin! Stay up to date with them via Spotify and Instagram, and keep a lookout for new music this year!
