EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE: Chidori - Data, The Android

Chidori bring a different spin on modern post-hardcore with “Data, The Android“

If you grew up in the very early 2010 metalcore/post hardcore scene then listen up, because we have something you’re going to like. There has been an ongoing nostalgia boom from the emo scene, now it is trickling into the heavier side of music, and Atlanta based band Chidori is the prime example. We’ve seen Chidori on GKE before, but now they have outdone themselves with their new single “Data, The Android”. This progressive post hardcore masterpiece has a lot to unpack between crazy rhythmic patterns and time signature changes. So strap in, you’re now along for this ride with me.

Chidori has absolutely no time to waste as they start off with high intensity and energy. While the music is very prog, it doesn’t lose you in the process. There is a saying between musicians that sometimes you get too good that you start writing music for other musicians, and while the musicianship is very impressive it still makes sense and creates a beautiful melody. While it would be easy to link all of the shreddy as Swancore, this has a completely different vibe. Reminiscent of the early electronic-core bands like Sky Eats Airplanes and Enter Shikari (👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼), Chidori incorporates the use of synth in the foreground that really makes everything pop. You get the first taste of that prominent and throwback synth around :50. But, the coolest synth part that gives major throwback vibes happens at the end around 2:30. The drummer really shows his chops here as he follows the flow of the synth in a super unique and creative way.

So, if you’re looking for something innovative but wear their influences on their sleeve, Chidori is your band! For being a fairly new act, they are absolutely crushing. I’ve really enjoyed everything this band had done and continues to do and I’m really excited to see what they have for us next!
