PREMIERE: In Memory - “Alone”
Written by Jesse James Smith
In Memory becomes the newest edition in the house of Metalcore with their debut EP ‘This Place Is Real’. This North Carolina based band speaks on the topic of mental health and mental health awareness in a poetic and vulnerable way. Earlier this year, they released their debut single titled ‘Lost’ which talks about dealing with everyday struggles while also trying to navigate creeping mental illness like BPD. Their message mixed with their style of metalcore are turning heads and capturing attention. A mix between Silent Planet and Polaris, they have all the bases covered from ambient but emotional low points to energetic and crushing riffs and breakdowns. With their EP release, they also released a music video for their song ‘Alone’ which is a continuation of the same story as ‘Lost’.
“We try to incorporate storytelling, singles like “Lost” leads into “Alone” where it follows a guy dealing with bipolar disorder and what it’s like to navigate that.”
- Justin Jynx (Frontman of In Memory)
Alone, like Lost, is an emotional and thought provoking track that has deeply inspired lyrics and the dynamic music to match. The song writing takes you on a journey of its own that matches the vibe of the lyrics making the story stand out. You can feel and hear the passion behind each note and word through the whole EP but this song in particular. Alone being the EP closer, it does leave you with a sense of closure, putting a nice bow on the EP and having it fade into the ether. For a brand new band, they have a clear direction and identity that will help them pave their own way and make real connections with fans everywhere. We here at GKE are honored to give you this premiere for such an outstanding new band on the block.
