SONG REVIEW: Danger Den - Given
Written by Jesse James Smith
Emerging from the depths of the world, Australia’s Danger Den is redefining what it means to be a pop punk band. Having releases stretching back to 2021, Danger Den is a live wire band that really doesn’t fit into the mold of modern pop punk. Mixing their influences of Sum 41 and Metallica, these guys bring a whole new energy to the scene. There is no better example of this than their newest single “Given”.
Starting with a Jazz/elevator music fake out, the band takes a completely different approach to starting the song with something unexpected. It doesn’t last long but breaks with the simple question, “ya like jazz?”. After about 15 seconds of that, the vibe switches completely. Off the bat you can hear the influences melt into one between the vibe of the song and the guitar riff that is clearly 80’s thrash based. That’s the part that really makes them stand out, the guitars. It’s so in your face and energetic that it doesn’t feel much like a pop punk song while all other aspects of the song is. There is even a guitar solo that is an absolute ripper.
Danger Den is most certainly a band to look out for. The perfect blend mixed with great song writing and production just means they’re a ticking timebomb and one good post away from everyone knowing who they are. Throughout their releases, they’ve just gotten better and better and right now, “Given” is a damn near perfect product. The accompanying music video is simple but effective and gives great visual of the band rocking this song.
