Ourselves Among Others Aren't Wasting Time – This Track RIPS!

Arising from California, Ourselves Among Others is a new heavy hitter in the CA local scene. Bringing the nostalgic warped tour metalcore sound back in style, Ourselves Among Others have been experimenting with heavy riffs mixed with electronic elements that ABSOLUTELY RIP! Popping up in the scene in 2023, the band has been steadily and consistently releasing new music and probing why they should be taken seriously as a rising artist in a hotspot scene like CA. Well, the band is back with a BANGER called ‘Wasted Time’ and this is their best release yet. 

Wearing their influences on their sleeve, you can tell they have a clear view of the identity of the band. Bringing back the electronica to the forefront of the music, not just something in the background. The intro is soft and smooth which hooks you in as the listener. The minor vocal effect they had in the beginning was a nice touch and made it more ambient. The motion of the song moving forward is like a rollercoaster ride with ups and downs in the intensity which isn’t bad at all and shows the dynamics of the band's song writing. But don’t be fooled, the high intensity parts are straight ass beaters! Including the chorus, the guitarists play a heavy party in how heavy everything sounds. The highlight moment though is the breakdown around 3 minutes. It really was reminiscent of all the bands I grew up listening to and it brought me back to being on the school bus at 7:30am with my skullcandy’s. 

One of the bands biggest influences is We Came As Romans but this definitely feels more like early WCAR, To Plant A Seed days. Listening back to the band’s songs, they are growing as a band both sonically and in image. I can see this band rising through the ranks if they keep going this direction and growing into their sound.
