SONG REVIEW: Vampire Everywhere - “A Fire In The Atlantic”

Vampires Everywhere brings their heaviest track ever in new single”

Since 2021 when Vampires Everywhere announced their return from a 6 year hiatus, the band has been firing on all cylinders. With consistent touring and releases the band seems to be making some noise throughout the music scene. 2 months ago they released a cover of The Lost Boys’ theme song “Cry Little Sister” which premiered here at GKE. With that being a hit release, they are wasting no time and are back again but this time with an original titled “A Fire In The Atlantic”. The name paying homage to the early Emo / Post Hardcore song title names while also being the heaviest song the band had put out.

Most fans of Vampires Everywhere would consider their 2012 album “Hellbound and Heartless” the album to contain the heaviest tracks in the band’s arsenal. While songs like “I Can’t Breathe” and “” are without a doubt heavy, A Fire In The Atlantic is bringing something fresh and modern to the mix. We got a taste of what is to come from Cry Little Sister with the machine gun kick drums, the punchy guitars and the big breakdown, but that was only a taste. A Fire In The Atlantic while still holding on to the giant emo choruses that Cry Little Sister had, they brought a more fast and forward track that also had a larger blend of screams. Vocalist Michael Vampire showed his skill in the last track and was only topped by this one. Showing off more emotion, the heavy and dark parts felt darker with his vocal delivery and the choruses felt more crushing but still had the chops like the last.

Overall, this song felt more modern in writing style and in what it means to be heavy today. This shows that there is a new chapter of Vampires Everywhere that is with us and that it wasn’t a one off good cover. Being able to stand in with the big names and be able to fit flawlessly while still holding on to what makes a band unique is the name of the game and Vampires Everywhere has done that. It’s no longer about coming back from a hiatus, it’s now about making their stamp on music in 2023 on.
