PREMIERE: All Black Horizon - “Side By Side”
Written by Jesse James Smith
Representing the Wisconsin metal scene, All Black Horizon is everything you’d think of when you think “Rock and Roll”. Their roots steam back to 2019 with their first release ‘Sordid Scripture’ but between 2020-2024 there was a silence. They broke that silence with their single ‘Retribution’ and now they are back with a brand new single titled ‘Side By Side’. The band has a theatrical element to them, dripping in black and makeup, and stylistically they are energetic with screaming guitars. Out of all times, they truly are part of the new wave that is erupting in the metal and emo community.
The intro to the song starts with a minor twist on the most popular intro’s ever. Much like Knives and Pens and “Unholy Confession", the song starts with a guitar riff that slowly picks up until it’s fully in your face. This intro is more aggressive than the ones I stated above which was the correct way to go with this. Blazing fast double bass with a solid guitar riff captures anyone's attention. Founding member and frontman Austin T. Legacy has a soothing deeper voice much like Andy Biersack. In a world full of high singers with beautiful melodies, there is just something so rock and roll about getting nitty and gritty. He also shows off his range with his screams in verse 2 where the music also shifts into a heavier more metalcore style pattern with heavy drums and heavier strings. But when you think that it wasn’t going to get heavier, they do have a super slowed breakdown that sets them apart from just another rock band and shows off their ability to stand out.
If the makeup and hair didn’t give you enough theatrics, the music video is riddled with Satanic imagery of cult members and inverted crosses which personally is my jam. You can feel the passion in the lyrics and vocals from their founding members and this is their strongest release to date. Knowing some of the other theatrical acts from around that area, I think they would fit in nicely in that scene. I hope they continue pumping out hard hitting tracks like this.
