SONG REVIEW: firerband - “Orbit”

Written by Jesse James Smith

Firebrand is a rising star in the local Ohio scene that started as a solo project. Vocalist Gabe Gazic broke off from his project of six years and in a dark time started to write for himself, by himself. Thus, in 2024, Firebrand was born and they have been consistently putting out music ever since. Which leads us to now and their new single ‘Orbit’. This song to me sparks a new era for the band as this is the first promo where the bandmates have been brought into the mix. Not only do they look cool and put together, the song itself is a little different from the band's normal direction but is insanely catchy!

I would classify them as the line between metalcore and post hardcore, but let’s be honest, today that line is so blurred that it basically doesn’t exist anymore. This song in particular to me feels like they ride that imaginary line. Orbit is more synth heavy than the previous tracks which gives it a “space-y” vibe (who would have guessed). It reminds me a lot of Starset and how they would construct their melodies. The chorus is beautiful and memorable and is the highlight of the song. It almost has a pop punk melody within the chorus so it has that emo vibe alongside the cool atmospheric synth.

This song to me would be the radio hit, the song that they pitch to the mainstream and go radio. It is more structured so more people would listen to it and like it, from pop to rock to even metal fans. Firebrand shows us their versatility and song writing abilities. There is a common misconception that writing catchy music is easy, and it isn’t at all. The boys have nailed that with this song. Stepping out of their comfort zone worked out and this is a solid track to introduce themselves to people who may not like their entire discography, but they’ll get down to this
