SONG REVIEW: Pvra Nova - "Home"

Pvra Nova takes the best of the scene and mainstream pop and creates something beautiful for everyone with “Home”

by Jesse Smith

Let’s get this out of the way right now, It’s pronounced PARA NOVA. Pvra Nova is a dual vocalist project from Massachusetts and is very new to the world of music having only two singles out. “Home” is the latest musical masterpiece released by the band and for being so new, It seems they have a tight grasp on the direction of the band. Blending alt pop like Pvris with more rock sounding instrumentals tied together with extremely talented vocalist, Pvra Nova is on the fast track to being a name everyone is going to know.

Coming into the alternative scene as a more electronic pop band can be super challenging. You almost have no place within the music scene, but in “Home” even though the tempo of the song is pretty slow, It really allows both vocalists to really really shine. The music isn’t overly complicated and is very straightforward which makes the song very likable and re-listenable. The vocal performance from Chris Brady and Rachel Bartlett is extremely unique to have as a band. Bands like Dayseeker and Issues were known to feature lovely female vocalists. It is awesome to find a band that is based with that feel. Lyrically “Home” is very relatable and emotional. Having a feature from the ambient queen Misstiq really was the touch that the song needed to drive home the feelings and emotion that the song deserves.

For this only being a second release, “Home” is incredible. I would not be surprised if Pvra Nova was a highly talked about act in a year. Chris definitely has a voice that you could hear in a post hardcore band which I believe is where the gap is bridged. With that being said, having something new and unique that isn’t metal or pop punk but a solid drop away from it is refreshing and for a band to nail the sound on their second try is just pure gold.
