SONG REVIEW: Always Running Out - “Monster”

Written by Jesse James Smith

Other than the grunge movement, you don’t hear much coming out of the upper northwest much anymore. Well that is about to change as there is a rising scene and one of its up and comers are a band called Always Running Out. This Tacoma band is a fresh face that is dialing in their sound of metalcore that is both riffy and catchy. Taking influences from bands that we’ve all loved like Bullet For My Valentine as well as bands like A Day To Remember, they are coming in hot with fast riffs and catchy hooks that blend the vast styles of metalcore together. The band emerged almost exactly a year ago with their first single and have been hard at work to deliver some kick ass music and get their name out there! Well it’s time now for their third single ‘Monsters’ and they have captured the attention of us here at GKE.

The blending of those two bands I mentioned up there is pretty spot on when you dissect this song. First and foremost the guitar work is fast and controlled while the vocals show range and artistry throughout the entire track. This track does not lack in energy which is a switch up from their intro. Starting with a nice clean tone and then shifting to non stop speed is a nice touch to make the song memorable. As you move through the song, it has seamless transitions which makes it so much easier to listen to and enjoy. This speaks volumes to the songwriting on the band’s part. Being a relatively new act, the band’s sound and songwriting is excellent and shows so much potential. Not only that, the quality of the track is really good! Very chunky and heavy in the low end which gives it that punch that most of your favorite bands have!

For being the new kids on the block, Always Running Out is a force to be reckoned with and will easily be embraced by the upper west coast scene. I’m curious to see what the band does moving further into 2025 and to see what kind of shows they will be playing. But if you’re in the Washington area and see them on a flyer, I can already tell it will be worth the price of admission.
