SONG REVIEW: Mortal After All - “Let It Be Known”

Written by Jesse James Smith

Mortal After All is a metal act from Jacksonville, North Carolina. Releasing their first EP in 2019 titled “Black Blood”, the band has been writing music that blends what seems like a wide variety of metal and rock subgenres. Metalcore, Thrash, Death Metal; Mortal After All has something for all heavy music listeners and they are back with a brand new single called “Let It Be Known.”

This track is definitely a heavy one both in music and message. Touching on topics of suicide, mental health, and substance addictions, this track is a deep dive into the personal thoughts and emotion of the band themselves. With that vulnerability comes a cathartic sense of understanding and belonging with their listener because we have all been touched by those demons in our lives. While the message is there, so is the music and the delivery. Both vocalists shine in this song and showcase their individual talents as well as how great they sound together. They touch into the symphonic blackened deathcore that bands like Lorna Shore have perfected, but they come at it with the twist of their clean vocalist. But like I said, they are a blend of all subgenres, so within this song you also have metalcore choruses as well as a dance break beat that is more of an upbeat in contrast to the song.

This is the first single with their new lineup and they had something to prove coming back like all bands do after member changes. “Let It Be Known” is a great step forward for the band and is creating a lot of buzz in their local scene. This song also has a music video that has really cool and dark themes and imagery. I would go check that out as well as checking out their Spotify.
