SONG REVIEW: Speakslow - “WILD2WEST”
by Jesse James Smith
Making noise from Savannah Georgia, Speakslow blends pop punk, emo and midwest sadness. Having a similar style of Transit, Man Overboard and Real Friends, Speakslow is nailing the angsty and gritty emotional pop punk music that we’ve all come to love. Being a relatively new band with their first single being released last year titled Atrophy, the band has a clear vision and direction. Today, we’re taking a deep dive into their newest single “2WILD2WEST”.
Angsty is the closest word I can use to describe this song. Speakslow taps into the nostalgic sounds and tones that make me feel something. Starting with the guitar tone and lead. It sits perfectly in the song and in the mix where it’s not overbearing, but it is there to add a little flavor. As I said before, this song gives me Real Friends vibes. I love their first line, “When will enough be enough, when we’ve been playing by the rules”. Like most sad boy songs, the lyrics touch on a failing relationship attached with a declining mental health. Another thing that stands out in a good way is the singer's voice. It has a raw and real tone to it which makes the emotions pop a little bit more.
If you like the early 2000’s emo, you’re going to want to give this band a shot. With being a new band, they have so much room to grow into their sound and style, but right now they have a great foundation and are pumping out some really great songs! We have our eyes on them and can’t wait to watch his band grow
